UNDER-fire Scorpions skipper Magnus Karlsson finds himself needing to put in a rousing performance against Glasgow tonight.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey questioned the Swede's commitment after he managed just five points in Monday's 51-41 home defeat to Sheffield, blasting it an 'inexcusable' display.

And with tonight the Scorpions' final Premier League match of the season (7.30pm), Karlsson is being urged to bring his form back up to scratch at the Eddie Wright Raceway.

"As captain, he should be setting an example," said Godfrey.

"He must have done a million laps round Scunthorpe, so he should have worked it out by now. If he hasn't, then he never will.

"It really annoyed me.

"I look back to the meetings we've lost at home and the contributing factor is Magnus Karlsson.

"In the Newport meeting (a 45-42 defeat in June) he wasn't particularly brilliant and I can't have it.

"I was really disappointed to see him at the back against Sheffield, with no commitment, no fire, no drive.

"I spoke to him when I handed over his money and said he didn't deserve it.

"He just didn't say anything, which says a lot.

"When Magnus Karlsson scores five points, we may as well pack up and go home because we expect more out of him.

"It was inexcusable, but apart from that one rider, the rest did try against Sheffield."

Godfrey believes it will be a much stronger Scunthorpe line-up turning out to face the Tigers tonight as Viktor Bergstrom switches to partner Jan Graversen in reserve.

The clash offers the Scorpions a chance to build some momentum and restore their confidence before the end of term Young Shield competition.

"Tonight's team will have a lot more balance to it than Monday's," said Godfrey

"With Viktor dropping to reserve, we'll use rider replacement for Jerran Hart at two.

"That would have made us a lot stronger on Monday, but it just came at the wrong time.

"Usually using r/r makes you weaker, but in this case, it won't. It will give us one of the strongest reserve pairings in the league.

"We have got to hammer Glasgow, for sure.

"It will be a good meeting. Joe Screen and Travis McGowan are both good entertainers for them.

"But our riders have got to pick themselves up.

"It's a case of grinding through to the end of the season, saying bye bye and seeing what next year brings."
