HUNDREDS of people turned out for the latest fundraiser being held to help Dylan Storey walk for the first time.

Hundreds of people flocked to Alkborough Parish Church to enjoy the bank holiday sunshine at the event in aid of the Telegraph's Dylan's Dream campaign,

Alkborough Women's Institute (WI) threw its weight behind the effort to raise the £50,000 needed for the surgery which could change the five-year-old's life.

Dylan has cerebral palsy and it is hoped pioneering surgery in America will help him walk.

Avis Ablott, secretary of Alkborough WI, said: "This is the 20th year we've done the bank holiday celebration and we always sponsor a local charity.

"After seeing the stories about little Dylan in the Telegraph, we knew this was the cause we all wanted to help.

"He's been an absolute little star and people are more than happy to put their hands in their pockets for such a worthwhile cause.

"We're hoping to raise about £800, which is what we raised last year, but obviously the more the better."

The event included a host of attractions such as stalls, a raffle, a tombola and home-made refreshments.

Dylan's grandmother, Liz Storey said: "These are people we didn't even know before and the fact they have put so much effort into raising money for Dylan is really touching.

"The turnout has been tremendous as well and it really helps motivate us when we see so many people getting behind the campaign."

Fi Storey, Dylan's mum, is preparing for a month of fundraising – including climbing Snowdon and a skydive at Hibaldstow Airfield.

She said: "I'm really nervous, but we're looking forward to it. Our diary is filling up and we'd like to thank everyone who's been kind enough to put on these wonderful events."

Members of Dylan's family will host a garden party in St John's Close, Burringham, from 1.30pm on Sunday in aid of Dylan's Dream.
