Suggestions Iron players have lacked fight 'wide of the mark' says Byrne
SKIPPER Cliff Byrne insists any suggestions Scunthorpe United players have lacked fight during their recent slump in form are 'wide of the mark'.
The Iron defender has called for calm when it comes to his team's slide down the table, which sees them stuck in the relegation zone.

But Byrne insists there is still enough time to turn their campaign around.
"I think it's an easy get-out when we're not winning for people to say we're not trying," he said.
"But I don't believe that's the case. Definitely not.
"You can have a go at the dip in form but to say we're not trying, for me, is wide of the mark.
"Yes the fans can question that, it's their right to say what they see.
"But I can promise you everyone is trying out there and endeavouring to win a game.
"I know times are difficult and performances might not be up to what they expect, but at times you've just got to roll your sleeves up – that's us as players and them as fans – and knuckle down.
"You've got to grind a horrible result out which will kick you on a good run of form.
"We're only at the halfway point of the season so there's a long, long way to go."
"There are a lot of games to play.
"We know we've got to start winning them."

“We were applauded off against Everton - I didnt agree with it but then I didnt agree that Laws recieved a standing ovation after Lincoln stuffed us in the play offs years ago either.
Iron supporters dont sing because those that do/did have been removed from their positions in the GWS and replaced by away supporters...the Iron crowd may be quiet at times but I dont agree that the support is negative - that is just rubbish.
I note that Hull are moving away fans from behind the goal into a corner so they have support on all four sides - we cant even 'control' a crowd of 5,000 in a custom built ground just off the motorway!
Get a grip Iron - sort the ground out and the atmosphere will increase.
Up the Iron!”

“Those people who say they haven't heard anyone saying the players aren't trying are obviously those that don't turn up at the moment as it is often heard from the crowd either by booing, comments made or jeers.”

“Well, if it's not lack of effort I guess it's just lack of ability. Pity, then, because lt would be possible to put more effort in but if the ability is not there that's the end of it. 'Bye 'bye Championship!”

“Ludicrous - Ive not heard anyone question the players effort...however 97.456% of Iron fans believe that the reason we are struggling is down to a lack of effort from the board.
Why does Wharton (or any of the board for that matter) never say anything...why heap the pressure on Bara and the team...if all this isnt bad enough, Wharton invites Laws into the directors box every game!
Up the Iron!
PS that hair dye really offses the fake nashers Clifford!”

“The only lack of effort at SUFC is via the boardroom - I've not heard anyone suggest the players are lacking passion or effort.
HOWEVER - 96.89% of Iron fans believe that instead of closing GP over the summer, we missed an open goal in not really pushing on and signing the replacements that Hooper, Hayes, Williams, McCaan, Sparrow required.
HAS ANYONE EVER QUESTIONED THE PLAYERS EFFORT? IF SO, WHERE?
Instead of hiding, one would hope that Wharton would come out fighting but he doesnt say or do much..the odd quip off Beeby and the rest of the blame is stacked on Bara and the lads...totally incorrect, we lost this season before a ball was kicked all in the name of 'rebuilding a terrace'...how's that geting on then?
UP THE IRON!
PS nice hair dye Clifford, sets off those fake nashers really nice!”
