THIS weekend the Wilderspin National School in Barton- Upon-Humber is once again opening its doors and hosting a number of special events as part of Lincolnshire Heritage Open Days.

This years theme is Lincolnshire At War – Through The Ages and the School Museum has chosen to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the blitz.

Heritage Open Days run until Sunday.

On Saturday and Sunday a wartime classroom will evoke childhood memories of evacuation and schooling during the Second World War.

Between 2.30pm and 3.30pm the junior section of the Scunthorpe Amateur Operatic Society will sing wartime songs from Escape To The Country from their recent performance at the Plowright Theatre.

On both afternoons there will be exhibits of wartime memorabilia and talks by Ken Jacobs about the blitz experience in London, Hull and other cities.

Other Heritage Open Days events in Barton-Upon-Humber include a revival of the popular exhibition, The Legacies Of War, at Baysgarth House Museum today, tomorrow and Sunday between from noon to 4pm.

The exhibition features the Stanbury Taylor letters which tell the story of the heir to the Baysgarth Estate who was gassed in the First World War.

The historic property at 51 Fleetgate is also being opened by the Barton Civic Society on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm.
