"We are using many security measures in the fight against cable theft in this area.

"They include: using RABIT technology that alerts police within minutes of a cable being cut, the invisible paint that tags thieves and we also have a partnership with Crimestoppers which offers up to £1,000 reward for information leading to arrests and subsequent successful convictions.

Humberside Police and BT have appealed for anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area to contact police on 101.

Update: A spokeswoman for BT later said: “Traffic management is in place and a cable team on site, starting to run new cable. Due to the size of cable this is likely to take around 3 days and then customers will be reconnected one by one.”
