Campaign group's optimism on Humber tolls

Saturday, October 04, 2008, 07:00

PRESSURE group Humber Action Against Tolls has said it is optimistic this week will shake up the debate to put a block on a planned rise.

Local and national campaigners have said a report, due to be published in London on Tuesday, could change the face of discussions about the tolls.

Jenny Walton, who chairs Humber Action Against Tolls, said: "I don't think the report is going to move mountains but I do think it is going to shake them up a bit.

"We have got to see what the reaction is to the study. They tossed the petition in the bin."

The Scunthorpe Telegraph's 'A Toll Too Far' campaign also received a boost from the National Alliance Against Tolls.

National co-ordinator John McGoldrick has written to the Secretary of State for Transport, now Geoff Hoon MP, to lay out the arguments against tolls.

He said they acted as a barrier to growth and divide communities.

Last minute protests can be directed to the Department for Transport by emailing julian.smith@dft.gsi.gov.uk

Well done Tony Blair! You knew just when to resign as Prime Minister, leaving Gordon Brown in the mess you created. However, Brown is not without criticism. The next election I will vote for the Monster Raving Loony Party.
