Charity skydive to remember stepdad

A MUM-of-two is to do a charity sky-dive in memory of her late step-dad after losing a massive six-stone.

Lindsay Sharpless, 32, of Stovin Crescent, Winterton, will plunge more than 15,000 feet to raise money for Lindsey Lodge Hospice, which cared for step-dad John Hopper, 66, as he battled oesophagus cancer.

The mum-of-two who weighed in at 19-stone, had always wanted to do a sky-dive but was simply too heavy.

But after her step-dad's death the thought of raising money as a thank you to the staff who cared for him spurred her on to lose weight.

"John was everything you could ask for in a step-dad, he was a really lovely man," she said.

"He died in December we all miss him, but Lindsey Lodge have been amazing, not just looking after John but the aftercare for my mum."

John battled cancer for seven years and was a day patient at Lindsey Lodge until the last seven weeks of his life, when he moved in for round the clock care.

"I felt I wanted to do something for the hospice because they were so good to us, nothing was too much trouble and mum still goes to see them now for meetings.Lindsay's family, including husband Sam, mum, Jeanette, from East Butterwick and her two boys are all behind her daring charity bid.

"I have a target of £500 and am about halfway there already."

Lindsay will be doing her sky-dive on Saturday 4th July 2009.
