Wednesday, October 22, 2008, 07:00

A CROWLE man went on a 'violent rampage' committing acts of rape and arson as well as threatening to kill his alleged victim, Hull Crown Court heard.

Andrew Smith (44), of Cross Slack, Crowle, faces six charges, comprising rape, arson with intent, reckless arson, possessing a firearm without a licence, false imprisonment and making a threat to kill.

Prosecuting, Caroline Bradley told jurors Smith terrorised a woman, sexually assaulted her, threatened to kill her and killed a number of animals. He was also said to have started several fires.

Giving evidence behind a screen, the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told of the alleged rape.

She said Smith came into her house. He was carrying a lighter in his hand.

He demanded she performed a sexual act on him and threatened to set her hair alight if she refused.

She said: "I was hysterical and I was begging him to stop but he just kept laughing."
