VIEW ON VIDEO: Christmas lights switch-on
Friday, November 21, 2008, 07:00
Hundreds gathered on Church Square to watch the annual ceremony and many took advantage of the event to do some extra shopping.
Children and families were even treated to an appearance from the man of the moment - Santa - and cast members from this year's pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk.
The Lincolnshire majorettes also wowed the crowd with their baton twirling skills with a performance live on stage.
Lincs FM presenter Ed Bretten and his colleague Eddie Shaw helped Santa and the pantomime crew flick the switch.
The lights included the giant Christmas tree, animated motifs, coloured bulbs and moving trains, which will be displayed along High Street and Jubilee Way over the festive period.
The day also marked the start of Scunthorpe's late night shopping evenings which will see shops in the town stay open until late every Thursday evening up until Christmas.
And for shoppers who wanted to kick start their Christmas late night shopping with a twist, the High Street was lined with stalls for the special Christmas continental market.
