Elsham Hall could save Brigg Prep

Friday, November 21, 2008, 07:00

ELSHAM Hall could be the new site of a school threatened with closure, it was revealed in crisis talks.

Parents had met to pledge support to plans to save Brigg Preparatory School from closure when the surprise announcement was made.

The offer of buildings at Elsham Hall from the Elwes family, whose two children attend the school, was one of three options mooted.

The Elwes family's land agent William Colbatch-Clark said: "In their grounds they have a large and attractive vacant courtyard, something of the order of 17,000 square feet in total.

"The building is partially let at the moment but there is an unoccupied building space there and the Elwes have said that, in principle, they would be very happy to grant a lease to the school of these buildings.

"It is true that it would take time to convert them for school use and to cater for that eventuality they could also make available grounds for temporary school buildings pending the conversion.

"This would be, subject to the formalities, in the form of a long lease.

"It is a lovely rural setting, easily accessible to Brigg, and an option for you to consider."

The offer was welcomed as a plan B should parents fail to persuade the United Church Schools Trust (UCST) to reconsider plans to close the school at the end of the year and merge it with Hull Collegiate School.

Well done Tony Blair! You knew just when to resign as Prime Minister, leaving Gordon Brown in the mess you created. However, Brown is not without criticism. The next election I will vote for the Monster Raving Loony Party.
