Fears quarry output could be trebled

PLANS to reopen Hibaldstow Quarry could see three times more limestone quarried than previously admitted, a public inquiry heard yesterday.

The controversial planning application from Halletec Industries is being jointly contested by Redbourne resident George Whiterod and George Wright of Redbourne Parish Council.

Mr Wright told the inquiry new information showed Halletec could quarry three times more limestone than laid out in the original application.

He said: "Ours is a fundamental objection that the environmental statement (from Halletec) fails to achieve its fundamental purpose."

Setting out his position, Hugh Richards, representing Halletec, said full details of the planned quarrying operation was unreasonable.

The original application from Halletec Associates to re-open and extend the limestone quarry was received in October 2007 and was turned down twice by North Lincolnshire Council.

Now Mr Mead has been called in to examine the issues in the public inquiry and decide the way forward.

Since the public inquiry was announced, North Lincolnshire Council has withdrawn its application after new information was submitted by Halletec.
