A MASSIVE 1,000 daffodil bulbs have been donated to a children's charity, in the hope auctioning them off will help boost funds for a dream Lapland trip.

John Cavill, managing director of Simply Gardening, has offered his support to the Telegraph's Make a Wish Come True campaign.

He said: "My partner has got two healthy little boys and I feel we should give something to help the children who would benefit from the trip to Lapland."

He added: "Last year I planted 250kg of daffodil bulbs and the year before the prize was a gardener for a day with plants, lawn treatments and much more.

"Making a difference to local children with life threatening illnesses won't stop just because the world is in recession and I hope that other businesses follow that lead and give what they can to raise the money to send children to see Santa at Christmas time. The trip must be allowed to go ahead – it can't fail as it may be some children's last chance."

As previously reported, it costs £60,000 to send 90 terminally and sick children and their carers to the winter wonderland for a day.

But due to the credit crunch, the charity is struggling to raise the cash needed to make the trip.

Mr Cavill's father Harry has donated 1,000 bulbs, which John has vowed to plant for the lucky bidder who gets the prize.

He said: "It is a lot of work but it is for a worthwhile cause. A few years ago I saw a video of the children on the Lapland trip but by March I had heard that eight of those children had died. That really brought it home for me as that really was their last adventure."
