Helpline launched to aid bullied children

Friday, November 21, 2008, 07:00

A NEW 24-hour helpline for youngsters worried about bullies is to be run by concerned older students.

Members of the Youth Anti-Bullying Council (YABC) have launched the pioneering project which allows youngsters to ring, text or leave a message on a telephone line 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The helpline was officially opened on Wednesday, as part of National Anti-Bullying Week.

Jemma Duffill (17), chairwoman of the YABC, expects the helpline to be well-received by local youngsters.

"As far as I am aware there is no other local service like this in North Lincolnshire.

"The helpline is a totally anonymous service which people can turn to 24 hours a day.

"They can simply send a message expressing their fears or talk to me or another member of the team about where to turn for additional help and support."
