Inquiry opens into quarry plans

Tuesday, January 06, 2009, 07:00

A GOVERNMENT inspector will decide if a North Lincolnshire quarry can be reopened as a limestone mine this week.

Halletec Associates want to reopen Hibaldstow Quarry and build a recycling centre between Redbourne and Hibaldstow.

Redbourne Council and resident George Whiterod will represent the objectors at the inquiry after North Lincolnshire Council withdrew its complaint.

Mr Whiterod said: "I am very confident that the science is right but the law is a bit of an unknown.

"The past few weeks have been devoted to research of the law and checking that our objections on grounds of science are valid.

"We will have to wait and see."

Mike Welton, head of planning at North Lincolnshire Council, said: "As the local planning authority we are duty bound to host the event.

"We will not be giving evidence against the application.

"We have accepted the information that the applicants have submitted."
