Is North Lincs rail network adequate?
That is the question the Scunthorpe Telegraph has been asking readers to vote on in our latest online poll at www.thisisscunthorpe.co.uk.
It comes as work began on a £19- million scheme to improve the railway line between Scunthorpe and Doncaster.
The upgrades, being carried out by Network Rail, are expected to cause major disruption to both passenger and freight trains throughout the summer. A new crossover at Scunthorpe station is part of the scheme, while the majority of the cash will be spent on a repair of the track at Medge Hall.
As reported in the Scunthorpe Telegraph, Northern Rail and TransPennine Rail have both organised replacement bus services to take passengers between Scunthorpe and Doncaster, in a bid to minimise disruption.
Readers of the Telegraph's website were unanimous in their view that the area does not have an adequate rail network.
At the time of going to press, 100 per cent of respondents had said this was the case.
Apart from the temporary closure of the line between Scunthorpe and Doncaster, other complaints included a shortage of trains, a lack of local links and high travelling costs.
