Number of strays rising in N Lincs

Saturday, September 06, 2008, 07:00

THE number of stray dogs picked up and subsequently destroyed on the streets of North Lincolnshire is rising, bucking the national trend.

Last year the council's dog wardens rounded up 500 strays, putting down 54 for a variety of reasons including age, temperament and illness.

Canine animal welfare group Dogs Trust said the number of strays in the UK last year dropped below 100,000 for the first time.

In North Lincolnshire last year, 196 of the 500 strays were reclaimed, 174 were sold, 66 were given away and nine were returned to their owners as found.

Stephen Coulman, North Lincolnshire Council's environmental health manager, insisted the figures were not on a steep curve.

Well done Tony Blair! You knew just when to resign as Prime Minister, leaving Gordon Brown in the mess you created. However, Brown is not without criticism. The next election I will vote for the Monster Raving Loony Party.
