Pay-per-view funerals by webcam

Wednesday, April 15, 2009, 07:00

MOURNERS will be able to make their loved one's funeral no matter where they are after Scunthorpe's Woodlands Crematorium launched live webcasts of services.

The £30 pay-per-view service means absent family members can attend funerals via their desktop computers.

Grieving relatives will be given a unique password to access the live video - the first of its kind in North Lincolnshire.

The system has been set up by Kettering-based Wesley Music which has been broadcasting funerals across the country for about two years.

North Lincolnshire Council cabinet member for neighbourhood and environment Coun Len Foster said it was a welcome addition to the crematorium's service.

He said: "I'm glad we are able to provide people in North Lincolnshire with this service and I'm sure it will be welcome to any family or friends who cannot attend the service of a loved one for whatever reason.

"It's always difficult saying goodbye to someone.

"But hopefully with the new music and webcast system it will be a bit easier for people organising a service."

Booking a webcast will add around £30 to the bill for a funeral at the crematorium.
