School bans pupil from GCSE mock exam for having pink hair
Jayme-Lea Taylor, 15, from Searby Road, was due to sit her mock GCSE English exam at Melior Community College yesterday.
But the year 11 pupil was told she could not enter the exam room because of her new vibrant pink hair colour - which is against the school's dress code.
"I wanted to sit the exam but I had to come home - I was really disappointed because I had been revising," said Jayme-Lea.
"There are other girls at the school with brightly coloured hair.
"I offered to take my pink extension out which would just leave the small pink bit under my fringe - which is hardly anything.
"I don't know why it couldn't have been sorted out after I had sat the exam rather than sending me home."
Jayme-Lea dyed her hair at the weekend.
Due to her work placement, Tuesday was the first time she had attended school with the new hairstyle.
Angela Briggs, headteacher of Melior Community College, said: "Parents and students are clearly made aware of the hair and dress code of the school.
"It is clear that pink hair is not permissible and the code is in place to uphold standards."
