School garden project saved

AN inspirational gardening project is now back on track after showing the green shoots of recovery.

Bottesford-based gardener John Cavill's £82,000 World Beyond The Classroom creation was under threat due to a lack of sponsors.

But he has now confirmed it will definitely go ahead as a show garden at the Gardeners' World Live exhibition in June.

It will then be dismantled and rebuilt at Leys Farm Junior School in Bottesford, as part of Mr Cavill's 'Simply Gardening For Schools' social enterprise.

Further sponsors, such as Scunthorpe-based Direct Aggregate Supplies, are now on board, lending a hand where they can.

Mr Cavill said: "It is wonderful because they went out of their way to find something they could do for us."

Direct Aggregate director Lee Fox said: "I think children need encouraging and I don't mind helping with anything that does that.

"I think the garden will show children what can be done and I'm sure they will get a lot of pleasure from it."

After being reassembled at Leys Farm school, the garden will help children learn outside the classroom, using horticulture as a teaching tool.

It will also act as a training ground for teachers from across the region.
