Scorcher forecast for the weekend

Saturday, July 04, 2009, 06:30

MORE hot weather looks set to be on its way to North Lincolnshire, although there is also the threat of heavy rain.

The heat looks likely to reach 23C (73F) today but there may also be scattered showers and heavier rain later in the day.

And the outlook for Sunday is similar, with temperatures hitting 21C (70F) but with heavy rain expected.

Amateur weatherman Terry Towse, of Lime Grove, Scunthorpe, recorded a high of 30.2C (86F) in Scunthorpe on Wednesday but said he thought more rain could be on the horizon.

"I wouldn't rule out a good downpour in the next week or so," he said.

"If I said to go out without a raincoat, I would be silly.

"The showers are more likely to be in the afternoon because as the warmth gets up on the clouds and breaks up, it can build up some thundery showers.

A severe weather warning was issued by the Met Office yesterday, forecasting heavy rain, thunderstorms and rainfall of up to 33mm in a three-hour period in some parts of North Lincolnshire.

But Mr Towse said these conditions were not unusual after hot weather.
