Soldier's mum overwhelmed by support
Helen Lombardi spoke ahead of a charity gun pull in memory of Craftsman Lombardi, which will also raise money for the Help For Heroes organisation.
Soldiers from the Scunthorpe Territorial Army centre, on Cottage Beck Road, will join Cfn Lombardi's football team-mates from the Beacon Hotel, to pull the 2.5-ton gun along a three-mile route next Saturday.
Mrs Lombardi said: "I am very honoured that they are doing this in memory of him.
"I will be walking with them on the day and hopefully, my three other sons will be walking with us as well.
"The support from family and friends and even people that we don't know has been overwhelming.
"He had a lot of friends, both at home and in his regiment."
The gun pull will set off from Scunthorpe's Berkeley Hotel at 11.15am on Saturday, with the route passing the Tesco store, which has sponsored the event.
It will pass the Jolly Sailor pub, in Gunness, before travelling over Keadby Bridge, through the village itself and passing the other sponsor at Keadby Chip Shop, before finishing at the Old South Yorkshire pub.
A raffle and auction will also be held at the pub later the same day, with the aim of raising as much as possible for the charity, which helps injured servicemen and women.
