Yellow lines plan for main town road

Monday, January 05, 2009, 07:00

DOUBLE yellow lines could be introduced on one of Scunthorpe's busiest roads to prevent motorists blocking cycle lanes.

North Lincolnshire Council are considering putting the lines on Messingham Road (A159) from the junction of Burringham Road to the Yaddlethorpe crossroads.

Bottesford ward councillor Steve Swift is spearheading the drive to protect cyclists who could be in danger from the parked cars blocking the cycle lanes.

He said parts of Bottesford, Ashby and Brumby were affected and ward members from the areas have received comments from cyclists claiming it is less safe.

"Attempts to resolve the situation amicably by the distribution of polite notices asking people not to block the lanes has unfortunately been unsuccessful," he said.

A six-week consultation is due to end the week of January 16.
