All aboard for the Iron Express

Friday, November 21, 2008, 07:00

SCUNTHORPE United will roll out a secret weapon for Saturday's top of the table clash with Leicester City – in the shape of The Iron Express.

For the club has chosen the crucial home game at Glanford Park to trial a new travel scheme for supporters.

The Kirton in Lindsey firm Barnard Coaches will spearhead the experiment designed to make the 9,000-capacity stadium more eco-friendly.

The Iron Express will set off from Kirton at 1.10pm on Saturday and arrive at Glanford Park at 2pm, stopping off at Scotter, Messingham, Bottesford and Ashby to bring home fans to the game.

The coach will leave for the return journey 10 minutes after the final whistle.

David Beeby, the football club's assistant secretary, said if the trial proved successful The Iron would run coaches to more home matches and look at extending the route to other areas of North Lincolnshire.

Mr Beeby said: "The scheme is intended to reduce the stadium's impact on the environment and make Glanford Park more accessible to those supporters living just outside the town."

Well done Tony Blair! You knew just when to resign as Prime Minister, leaving Gordon Brown in the mess you created. However, Brown is not without criticism. The next election I will vote for the Monster Raving Loony Party.
