Our playground has gone from 'average' to 'amazing'
The playground at Westcliffe Primary School was just the average school play area until the beginning of the new autumn term.
The school used to have two playgrounds, one for each key stage, as Westcliffe Primary School was previously a separate infant and junior school. This meant that the two key stages played in different areas except at dinner time.

CLIMBING: Pupils get to grips with the new school playground
Now, not only is there a huge open area for us to play but an adventure playground and climbing area has also been built. After the long summer break, it was wonderful to come back to. This amazing playground includes a shaded area. You never know, the sun may come out.
Charlie, from year one, said: "The playground is a good fun place to be. My favourite part is the adventure playground."

The new playground has one big open play area which means we can now all play together.
Daniel, a key stage two pupil, said of the playground: "It's an adventurous place to be and my favourite part is the adventure playground too!"
There are lots of things to climb and balance on and each of the apparatus presents its own challenge.
Both areas are used every break and dinner for recreation, but they are also being used to help younger pupils gain confidence with their balance. To make sure everyone has a chance to have fun while at the same time being safe, we have to play fairly. The hope for the play area is that everyone respects the equipment and that together we shall all look after it. We want it always to be a fun, safe place for all, as it is now.
That describes just one area. We also have a large open pavement. Each year, a group has an allotted day to use the climbing equipment, which means the rest of the year groups use the main playground or the quiet shaded areas. It is great that everyone is together now. The younger children get to know the older children and the older children like to help and play with the younger members of school.
The youngest pupils of Westcliffe Primary School have their very own play area which they can use almost any time of their school day. The children in foundation were asked what they liked the most. Construction and water play came very high on their list of likes.
Every one of our play areas is a special place. They are fun, exciting places and we want them to stay that way forever.
