Poor pitch at Glanford Park is not an excuse says Togwell
WITH a relegation battle comes a change in philosophy, and for Scunthorpe United that means they should prepare for turf wars.
Midfielder Sam Togwell admits the poor state of the Glanford Park pitch can be somewhat of a hindrance to the home side.

GRASS WON'T BE GREENER: United's Sam Togwell.
But he feels they have coped well in the circumstances, as shown by an attacking first half performance in Saturday's goal-less draw with Derby County.
"We're a footballing team and we want to play football, but we have to adapt to it," said Togwell.
"We adapted really well on Wednesday, hence why we won (against Nottingham Forest), and on Saturday I think we were the better team because we adapted quicker and played football in the right areas – in their half.
"Every game at home is going to be like that now. We've got to work with what we've got.
"The pitch is more brown then green, so we have to grind results out.
"It's not nice to watch, I'm sure, I understand that – it's not nice to play in sometimes.
"But points keep you in this league, so we'll do anything to win games.
"Points are valuable and we got another one on Saturday. If we stay up by one point at the end of the season, people will look at this result.
"I think overall we are happy with a point.
"The first half I thought we did really well and were by far the better team.
"We were getting crosses in and winning corners and free-kicks, all in their half.
"We were creating loads of chances and if anyone was going to score, it was going to be us.
"But that has been the story of our season.
"Obviously we put in a lot of work in the first half to play in their half of the pitch.
"But in the second half, they came out and tried to kill the game a little bit and we looked tired towards the end.
"After having a hard game on Wednesday and a hard first half like we did, it was always going to be difficult to maintain that."
The draw hauled Scunthorpe to within a point of third-from-bottom Sheffield United, who they host tomorrow night – a match Togwell accepts is a must-win.
Home form has steadily improved for the Iron in recent games, and the 26-year-old knows they must keep that going if they are to climb out of the relegation zone.
"It's been improving for weeks and hopefully we can build on this," he said. "We've got another tough game tomorrow.
"They lost at the weekend (1-0 to Crystal Palace), so they're not going to like coming here.
"You won't be able to pass on this pitch, so let's have another battle and another rough and tumble game.
"It was always going to be an important game and Saturday was always important too.
"You don't want to lose any game, but you'd rather beat the teams around you."
