A RANGE of soups, sauces and dips developed by food boffins in Scunthorpe has hit the £10 million annual turnover mark for the first time.

TSC Foods' Glorious! brand has souped up its turnover five years after the firm, based on the town's Queensway Industrial Estate, invested heavily in launching the range.

David Bondi, TSC's managing director, said: "We're thrilled to reach this milestone with such success.

"We use market share to gauge how customers react to our brand and the fact our market share has grown continually since Glorious! launched indicates we are exceeding customers' expectations. We are shedding the wintry image that some soup brands have to ensure our fresh soups are at the forefront of consumers' minds all year round by using more delicate flavours."

The firm's overall turnover soared by £12 million to £47 million last year.

More good news for the 300-plus TSC workers in Scunthorpe came when it was announced Glorious! sells one in 10 of the fresh soups sold in the UK by major supermarket chains like Morrisons, Asda and Sainsbury's.

To keep up with the demand, the firm imports a lot of its high-quality ingredients from Europe and is a keen supporter of the UK staying in the European Union.

Mr Bondi said: "Free trade would go out the door."

TSC started trading in 1991 but in 2009 was bought out by the management in a reported £24 million takeover backed by Key Capital Partners.

Peter Armitage, a director, said: "TSC has invested heavily in both the development of new products and manufacturing equipment to ensure it develops and sells high-quality innovative soups, as well as sauces and desserts.

"Its success is largely due to the strong consumer demand for products made in the UK."
