£750k Christmas present at Lindsey Lodge Hospice in Scunthorpe
LINDSEY Lodge Hospice in Scunthorpe has offered an early Christmas present to users with plans for a £750,000 expansion of the site.
The development, which would begin in April if approved, would create a new wing to the north end of the existing building if, as hoped, the Government offers a grant to pay for the move.
The proposed expansion would help the hospice offer additional accommodation for families to stay overnight in the form of two twin rooms, counselling rooms, bereavement and family support rooms, and two large multi-functional rooms.
Mel Banham, head of fundraising at the hospice, said families were travelling from further afield to visit relatives at the hospice and the extra space would give them room to stay over.

"It is good news to be able to have this opportunity to submit the bid for full funding," he said. "For us, as a charity, to get 100 per cent funding, it would be a brilliant new year for us.
"The need for this particular building is that we are cramped for space, particularly around our bereavement and family support. I feel this is the best bid we have ever put together and the best presented project that we have been able to put forward."
An announcement on whether the grant will be offered is due in March.
Mr Banham said there would be a greener feel about the site, with small terraces to be created around the new annexe, offering additional external space in the form of small landscaped private gardens. A natural green barrier between the new building and the car park area would also be created by new planting on the site.
Plans for the extension at Lindsey Lodge have been submitted by CR Parrott Consultants Limited. The new building at the Burringham Road site will replace an existing overspill parking and service area. Additional parking will be relocated to the north side.
The very first Santa Day has been organised by the hospice to raise much-needed money.
Santa Day will take place across North Lincolnshire on Friday, December 14.
People are encouraged to raise money by dressing up in Santa costumes or accessories. Call 01724 843731.
