Pub Idol finalists impress judges

Monday, September 01, 2008, 07:00

THE FINAL heat of the Scunthorpe Telegraph Pub Idol 2008 competition completed this stage of the talent contest in style.

Four contestants gave star performances in the hope of winning a place in the final to compete for the £500 prize.

Performers gathered at the Habrough Hotel, near Immingham, at 9pm on Friday August 29 included singing detective Phil Moore (40).

The police officer turned out to be the bobby with the beat as he sang the Blues Brothers' 'Minnie the moocher' and Otis Redding's 'Try a little tenderness'.

Tim McKay (18), of Riverside, Brigg, is a lover of country and pop inspired by some of the most commercially successful artists in the world.

He sang Dion's 'Runaround Sue' and Garth Brook's 'Your song' with a confidence belying his tender years.

Ian Helps (25), of Brooklands Avenue, Brigg, sang

Elton John's 'Don't let the sun go down on me' and Otis Redding's 'Try a little tenderness'.

And trainee teacher Stacy Lyner (26), of Queensfield, Gainsborough, gave a powerful rendition of Whitney Houston's 'Greatest love of all'.

In another close call, judges chose Ian Helps and Tim McKay to go through to the final next week.
