Top talent shines bright in Pub Idol

PERFORMERS dazzled the judges at the Beacon Pub in heat six of the Scunthorpe Telegraph Pub Idol 2008 talent contest.

Five singers got up on stage at the Burringham Road venue to compete for a place in the September final.

Balladeer Paul Gooch (39), of Oriole Road, Scunthorpe, won the hearts of the audience by singing Boyzone's Words and Westlife's When You Tell Me That You Love Me'.

Rocker Graeme Drayton (24), of Foxhills Road, Scunthorpe, took to the stage with Poison's Every Rose has its Thorn and Bob Dylan's Knockin' on Heaven's Door'.

Disco queen Claire Snowden (25), of Digby Street, Scunthorpe, boogied to Pink's Leave Me Alone and Irene Cara's Flashdance.

Pop-lover Grace Bower (19), of Burringham Road, Scunthorpe, gave exuberant performances of Amy Winehouse's version of the Zutons' Valerie and Duffy's Mercy.

And soulful Joanne Taylor (26), of Scotter Road, Scunthorpe, sang two Dusty Springfield songs from the heart – You Don't Have to Say You Love Me and All I See Is You.

Joanne Taylor and Grace Bower were voted top by the judging panel and will perform in the final at Reeds Hotel, Barton-Upon-Humber, on Monday, September 8.
