From redundancy to a secure future
WHEN John Moore and his wife were made redundant from their jobs in the security industry, the couple were determined not to dwell on their situation.
Having just moved house and with two young children to support, the couple began looking at ways they could use their skills in new roles.
Initially tempted to take on an established business in north Hull, the pair were encouraged to take the leap and set up their own company instead.
Now, John Moore Security is celebrating 25 successful years in business.

The Hull-based family firm employs about 80 staff and has six branches reaching across the country.
Sally Moore, daughter of the business's founders, said: "My dad was so determined, he would have done anything to support us.
"I remember going to Orchard Park with him to look at a newsagents.
"I was only 4 at the time.
"But his friends in the Round Table encouraged him to set up his own business, and after securing a small loan he took the risk and started his own security firm."
Beginning solely with domestic customers, the company provided electronic security systems in Hull and the surrounding area.
However, positive feedback and word-of-mouth helped the company expand into the commercial sectors.
Now, John Moore Security has a combined contracted customer base of more than 15,000 customers, ranging from local authorities and major retailers to Rolls-Royce, as well as maintaining a domestic customer base.
Thanks to its organic expansion, supported by a series of gradual acquisitions, John Moore Security has a turnover in excess of £4 million.
But despite this, the company remains true to its Hull roots and family values.
"We still have that personal family feel," said Sally. "I think that has been a large reason for the company's success. Even though we have grown, if a customer wants to speak to my dad, they can call him.
"Not many companies can say that about the managing director but he enjoys what he does."
To mark the company's 25 years, it is holding an open day event at the KC Stadium's Circle Restaurant on Thursday, September 13, from 11am to 7pm.
Everyone, including customers old and new, are welcome to attend where they can meet members of the John Moore team as well as their suppliers and manufacturers.
There will also be workshops and seminars to help anyone setting up a new business find out the best security options available to them.
