Marie Hughes, the council's sport, play and community development officer, is part of a steering group organising the awards. She said: "This is your final chance to nominate your local hero.

"There are so many people out in the community doing good work and achieving good things.

"This is a real opportunity locally to give them the real celebration they deserve, put them in the limelight for an evening and reward them with some thanks and recognition.

"There is never enough people can do to say thanks sometimes.

"So we want to use this as an opportunity to recognise that good work and celebrate the good work that is happening in North Lincolnshire."

The awards are split into sections for volunteer, achievement, community and inspiration.

They will be presented at a ceremony to be held at the Baths Hall in Scunthorpe on Thursday, November 29.

Mrs Hughes said the evening would include performances by a variety of local groups, as well as the award presentations.

She said: "We are looking at entertainment on the evening and we are liaising with local groups.

"The Melior College Dance Group will be opening the show and the music support service is providing a swing band.

"We have got the Vale Academy music department and the Shower Singers are going to be performing."

Mrs Hughes said a sit-down meal would be provided for nominees as part of the event, with the aim of using local produce.

She said: "We are looking at using all local produce, so it is really a local event.

"All of the people performing on the night are from North Lincolnshire.

"If we can get the produce from North Lincolnshire or Lincolnshire as well, it adds to the whole feel of the event."
