Back in the saddle for big Barton Bike Night
PREPARATIONS are well underway to make this year's Barton Bike Night a roaring success.
Barrie Newton, chairman of the Barton Bike Night Committee is racing ahead with preparations for this year's event to make sure it's a smooth ride.
Mr Newton said: "We just have to keep this fantastic event going. It means so much to the town, especially the local economy.
"For fish and chip shops, pubs, shops and ice cream sellers it is one time of the year where they can make a lot of money. Last year we had about 15,000 people attend.
"There were no reports of any trouble, it was just good family fun."
As reported, the event was under threat of not going ahead last year after founder and organiser of the event, Malcolm Bennett, stepped down after 12 years.
But two businessmen Chris Ashton and Barry Newton stepped into ensure it went ahead last summer.
They formed a committee made up of six people to organise the event.
They had to complete reams of paper work to comply with health and safety regulations.
