Nick's 'unreal' producer

Wednesday, September 03, 2008, 12:50

Hotly-tipped singer-songwriter Nick Harrison has described working with Amy Winehouse's former producer as "unreal".

Nick worked with Salaam Remi - who was behind Amy's debut album Frank - for his first album, to be released in a few months.

Asked what it was like working with the producer, Nick said: "Unreal. He's an American rap producer, but he did Amy Winehouse's first album a few years ago and some other British artists. My manager knew him, so we had a meeting, and I played him a couple of songs. We then wrote four, two of which are on the album. I flew to his house in Miami to record them."

He continued: "His studio is in his house, and he's got so much gear, it's unbelievable. Salaam's got loads of people working there too, so the house is always busy."

"I was just this typical white English boy over there, agog the whole time and trying not to sound like an idiot in front of all these cool people," he laughed.

Nick's single Oi Rude Boy is out now.

He explained: "It's a story about this guy I met who took an interest in the hat I was wearing. It inspired me a bit, and made me think about growing old. You see these old people who still dress in a rockabilly way, or in biker's leathers or whatever. There must be a point where that's not OK any more."

Regarding the smoking ban, when you go out and go back home you no longer smell like an ashtray. Passive smoking kills. Period.
