First sod cut on new changing facilities for Scunthorpe rugby union and cricket clubs at Heslam Park
SCUNTHORPE Town Cricket Club has begun indoor training in preparation for the start of the new season.
The Lincolnshire League Premier Division outfit, who won the title last season but are not moving up to the Lincs ECB Premier League, are working at Trent Valley Academy, on Sweyn Lane in Gainsborough.

GROUNDS FOR CELEBRATION: Councillor Liz Redfern, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, is joined by Scunthorpe RUFC ladies’ captain Angie Grey and Gary Brumby from Scunthorpe Town Cricket Club as she cuts the turf to start work on the building of new changing rooms for the cricket club and the ladies’ section of the rugby club. Funding from NLCC and Sport England has enabled the project to go ahead. “It will further enhance the facilities at Heslam Park for women and girls and junior cricketers,” said cricket club chairman Richard Barwell
Anyone interested in attending, including new players, is welcome to do so.
Sessions take place between 3-5pm on Sundays, until the end of March.
