Cross Keys champions of the Lincolnshire Co-op Sunday Friendly Cricket League

CHAMPIONS: Paul Mitchell of Cross Keys.

CHAMPIONS: Paul Mitchell of Cross Keys.

CROSS Keys are the new champions of the Lincolnshire Co-op Sunday Friendly Cricket League for the first time in the club's 14-year history.

The Winterton XI made sure of their first-ever title by beating Garthorpe CC by 18 runs.

Garthorpe, as hosts, skittled Chris Davey and his men for a respectable 122.

Rusling made a good start for the villagers with an unbeaten 25, but his team-mates were thwarted by some neat Winterton bowling.

Garthorpe however could still finish their maiden season as runners-up in their vital encounter with Lindsey Lodge tomorrow.

Howden's Lodge smashed all this season's records in their massacre of bottom-of-the-table The Riveter.

Dave Brown set a new record claiming five wickets for a single run in his one-man assault on the league strugglers.

But the Lodge showed their skills at batting as the opening six batsmen were unbeaten on 25 or more to finish on the highest score to date in the league of 187.

RESULTS: Cross Keys 122 all out (J Woolhouse 3 for 14) Garthorpe CC 104 all out (S Rusling 25 no, J Woolhouse 15 no, C Davey 2 for 4); The Riveter 46 all out (D Brown 5 for 1); Howden's Lodge 187 for 2.

FIXTURES: Lincoln Imp v Sherpa Hotel (at Co-op Sports); Keadby CC v Howden's Lodge (at Generation Park, Keadby); Lindsey Lodge v Garthorpe CC (at Foxhills School). Tuesday, Howden's Lodge v Sherpa (at St Bede's).
