IRON fans will get a glimpse of the future and a blast from the past when the England Under-17 team come to Glanford Park next month.

The reigning European champions are led by ex-Scunthorpe United defender John Peacock, who will bring his charges to his old stomping ground for the annual FA International Under-17 Tournament.

The teenage Three Lions will grace the Scunthorpe pitch on Sunday, August 29, when they face current title-holders Portugal (3pm kick-off).

But supporters will get the change to see international football before then when the Portuguese and Australia get the tournament underway at Glanford Park on Wednesday, August 25 (3pm).

Turkey make up the quartet of nations taking part, with games also set to be staged at Lincoln City's Sincil Bank and Grimsby Town's Blundell Park.

It promises to be a stern test for Peacock and his young side, who are now getting ready for their maiden appearance in a UEFA competition when they travel to Georgia for the first qualifying round of the Under-17 Euros in October.

The Under-17s' predecessors are the holders of that trophy, having made history at the end of last season by winning that age group for the first time.

They were 2-1 winners against Spain in the final, which was staged in Liechtenstein, coming from behind before young Ipswich Town star Connor Wickham grabbed the winner.

Peacock, who made 185 appearances at full-back for Scunthorpe in the mid to late 1970s, will hope to use his time in North Lincolnshire to perfect their preparation.

Ticket prices for all games are £3 for adults and £1 for concessions. For ticket information, call 0871 221 1899.
