award: KC's "not-spot" project has been nominated for the 2012 NextGen Challenge awards – the competition for those engaged in the race to upgrade the UK's broadband networks.

The independent judging panel is now considering the entries. The finalists will be announced on Saturday, September 29.

The not-spot project has been nominated in the Rural Leadership category.

The project aims to eliminate all the "not-spots" – places where broadband hasn't been available – in East Yorkshire.

NextGen Challenge organiser, David Brunnen, said: "Many people do not yet realise we are all heading at speed towards a fully digital economy but across the country our capacity to develop at work or at home – particularly in rural areas – is inhibited by the current digital deficit."
