EMPLOYMENT: More than half (65 per cent) of workers in Yorkshire describe their manager as "good", with 47 per cent of respondents saying they are given the freedom to get on with their work uninterrupted.

The research, which was conducted by YouGov as part of a quest by recruitment consultant Reed to recognise the nation's best managers, shows despite the challenges of the recession, UK workers are being led by cool, calm and collected managers.

Ultimately, workers want a manager who is fair (30 per cent), relaxed (20 per cent) and inspirational (19 per cent), with Sir Richard Branson topping the poll for the famous person people would choose as a manager.
