I can't wait to drive again - crash teen
A BRAVE teenager who suffered multiple injuries in a car crash last year has organised a fundraiser in honour of the paramedics who treated her.
Alice Watson, 19, fractured her spine and breastbone and punctured her bowel in a head-on smash during a driving lesson on December 19 last year.
While she is still recovering physically from the ordeal, Alice is already focussed on giving something back to those who saved her from the wreckage.
This weekend she will host a fundraising bring-and-buy and table-top sale in honour of the paramedics who treated her.
She said: "They helped me so I want to help them. I'm really looking forward to being able to do something in return."
Alice had the help of her nana, June Watson, in planning the event and said she really hoped their hard work would pay off.
"It's taken lots of planning, we're both excited about it," she said.
While the busy teenager has made fantastic progress, the physical impact of the accident remains; she has scars on her knee and stomach, is currently wearing a brace to repair her back and her throat has not yet recovered from tubes inserted in intensive care.
But with the help of her much-loved nana, Alice will get to show the community how far she has come at this weekend's event.
Mrs Watson said: "I'm very proud of her. She's made fantastic progress and we're really hopeful about her making a complete recovery.
"Alice is a lovely bright girl, she loves working with children and it's wonderful to see her getting back on her feet.
"She's come so far; she was very poorly, the operation to repair her bowel was a major one and there was a point when she had to be rushed from Scunthorpe Hospital to Hull."
Support the cause on Saturday, at Ealand Victory Hall, New Trent Street, Ealand, from 10am to noon.
Pitches cost £5 and can be booked by calling Mrs Watson on (01724) 710716.

“This shows the importance of having lessons with a driving instructor in a dual control vehicle.
The instructor should be more aware of what is happening than the learner and should see an incident before it happens and take avoiding action. This is what the extra brake pedal is for.
Anyways this lass is an inspiration to us all and my betting is that she would make a very safe driver in the future.”
