No time like the present for Togwell

TIME is of the essence for Scunthorpe United.

Without a win for just over a month, the Iron have just 10 games left to save their season.

Midfielder Sam Togwell knows they need to start picking up points sooner rather than later, starting when Plymouth visit Glanford Park tomorrow.

"We keep saying we've got 10 games left. After tomorrow it will be nine games left and so on," said the former Barnsley battler.

"If we don't start winning soon, we are going to run out of games.

"We need to pick up points.

"Hopefully we can stop the talking and do the work tomorrow.

"I think we are going to need three or four wins and our best chance of getting them is at home.

"Every home game we've got is winnable.

"Luckily other results have been going our way in the games that have been played.

"Teams are doing us a favour at the moment, but we can't keep relying on them.

"We're going to have to get some points on the board ourselves."

Togwell insists Wednesday's comprehensive 3-0 defeat at Newcastle will be swiftly forgotten by the Iron players before the Pilgrims arrive in town.

The 25-year-old, who came on for the last half hour at St James' Park, sees tomorrow's clash against a fellow relegation contender as the perfect opportunity to get back on track.

However, Togwell is well aware that Plymouth should not be taken lightly, having picked up five points from their last four games.

"It was almost good to get Wednesday out of the way and now look forward to what is our meat and drink in the Championship," he said.

"We have to pick ourselves up from it and be ready for tomorrow.

"At home we have got a good record and we can play the way we want to play, on our terms.

"Any team coming to us is going to be in for a battle.

"This is a six-pointer.

"They are below us at the moment, but they are going to want to get as many points on the board as they can to get above us.

"Every team has picked up.

"They've picked up, Peterborough have picked up, Watford won against Ipswich.

"It's a crazy league. Everyone is getting results everywhere.

"At the moment we haven't had that luck, but it's got to change some time and hopefully tomorrow is the time.

"We all want to win games and if you keep losing, it's not good.

"Obviously confidence can drop. It's up to our staff and the players to pick ourselves up and make sure that doesn't happen."

“Absolutely right. Why talk about the games and how winnable they are why don't we talk about the game like it has actually been played and won!!!! That way we wouldn't have to read the match report on a Monday and spend the rest of the week depressed (usually!!!)

Get a grip and try acting with a little bit of common sense. Of course they are going to comment about the next game and what they need to do and whether they can win it. I don't want a footballer reading/telling me the weather!”
