It will also bring additional services, including signposting and possibly a complaints and advocacy service.

Who Cares carried out research from November 2011 to early September 2012 to ask people how they want to be communicated with and what gets in the way of effective communication.

The survey also asked people what they felt would help them to access information about services and how to make complaints.

It found 26.19 per cent of respondents wanted to receive information by post, 26.19 per cent wanted it by e-mail or over the internet and 27.20 per cent wanted posters or fliers.

Also, 33.25 per cent would like to access information by telephone and 22.17 per cent said they would like a one-stop shop.

Other issues highlighted during this research included:

Inability to get an appointment with their GP when needed

Inconsiderate attitude of receptionists at some GP surgeries

Inability to find a dentist, particularly an NHS dentist

Cost of travel to appointments, particularly at Hull hospital

Care of the elderly

Hospital food

Not being treated as an individual but as a number.

Over a number of months during 2010, Who Cares became aware of a variety of concerns from members of the public in relation to accessing dental services. As a result of these concerns, the Who Cares executive group made the decision to undertake a major piece of research to find out what the experiences, views and opinions were from the residents of North Lincolnshire.

A report on the findings has recently been produced and a copy is available on request. Who Cares are currently carrying out research in relation to access to GP's, mainly focusing on the ability to get an appointment when you need it.

If you want to take part in the survey, contact Who Cares and a questionnaire will be sent to you.

If you want a full copy of any of the reports, e-mail who.cares@vanl.org.uk call 01724 845155 or visit the website www.who-cares-online.org.uk
